Our Mission Statement

We seek to discover the most honest and real voices out there, all while creating a platform that allows those without one to express themselves and give power to their ideas. In order to reflect the vibrancy of the world, Authylem makes it its mission to include diverse and distinct artists: both those newly finding their voice and those with developed voices that haven’t been heard.

Hi! I'm so glad you've found my little magazine. My name is Neha, and I'm the creator of Authylem. I created Authylem for my senior capstone project in the fall of 2020, as I've always loved being involved in literary magazines and it's been a goal to have one of my own.

I'm a 17 year old high school senior with lots of experience in the literary world. What got me started with all of the literary adjacent things I do was volunteering at my local library, particularly by volunteering to write book reviews for YALSA's Teens' Top Ten List. Nowadays, I still review books, but I also take part in other literary activities.

I'm an editor for Elementia, a literary arts magazine published by the Johnson County Public Library, and I've been working with that wonderful team for nearly four years now. You can find some of my poetry and essays in Elementia, plus some of my other miscellaneous published works pop up in literary magazines online. I also help the Mid-Continent Public Library plan their book festival, LitUp, which has given me experience working with publishers. I've even interviewed and met with a multitude of authors, such as Nic Stone, Louis Sachar, Adib Khorram, and many more.

For now, I want to make it clear to anyone submitting that Authylem is solely run by me, but I have plans to expand to a team of editors and designers for the coming years. Thank you for checking out Authylem!

Michelle

Personal Assistant & Trusted Advisor

Named after Michelle Obama, Michelle is a force to be reckoned with. She enjoys long walks with Neha, badgering her family for treats, and staring people down until they give her attention. A curious soul, Michelle is very attentive to the stacks of books and papers that Neha brings home, and is incredibly selective with which ones she delicately licks, an offering of her seal of approval. All submissions to the magazine must pass the lick test to enter the final stage of selection.

* Just kidding, no lick test will be required! However, Michelle will be inspecting submissions for dog references very thoroughly. If you'd like, please feel free to address your cover letter to Michelle.
